frequent flickering

Poem written after seeing “Star Wars” yesterday.

frequent flickering
in front of us, a Jedi
maybe 10-years-old
his plastic lightsaber
falling back loosely
into its covering
much to his annoyance
behind us
a mother hording seats
spreading out
pieces of her purse
like each chair
was a stubborn child
wanting a toy distraction
the audience applauds
without reserve
responds without
a fourth wall
it is more than movie
to some of them

CBS cancels “Joan of Arcadia”

Amen.
Yes, I know it was a critical “darling” and that the little moppet of a lead actress was nominated for an Emmy or a Grammy or a Tony or some such nonsense, but, really, I’m just damn happy that’s one less person pretending they are talking to God.

Looks like I’ll be sharing a flat with one other girl—a friggin’ Canadian, SWEET—in Hamada, Japan. That’s a small fishing port (49,000 people) on the West coast of Honshu (shimane prefecture) on the sea of Japan (close to South Korea).
